Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal information Equitas Mediation collects through this website, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It is written to meet our obligations under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

Who is responsible for your information
Equitas Mediation, operated by Dr. Jamie Rheeder, is the responsible party for the personal information described here. You can reach us at jamie@equitasmediations.com or 060 527 9893 with any question about this policy or about information we hold.
What we collect
When you complete the enquiry or callback form, we receive and store:
- Your name - first name, and surname if you provide one.
- Your contact details - email address, and phone number if you provide one.
- The subject you select and the message you write.
- Technical details - your IP address and browser identifier, recorded automatically to detect spam and abuse of the form.
Please share only what you need to in the message field in order for us to respond. A first enquiry does not need the details of your circumstances - those are better discussed in a confidential consultation.
Why we use it
- To reply to you. Your enquiry reaches us by email and is stored so we can respond and keep track of correspondence.
- To protect the form. The IP address and browser identifier let us rate-limit and block automated submissions.
- To measure advertising. We use Google Ads to reach people searching for mediation, and we measure which advertisements lead to enquiries.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it to send marketing or newsletters.
Cookies and Google
This site loads the Google tag, which sets cookies to record that a visit resulted in an enquiry. This tells us that an advertisement worked; it does not tell Google who you are or what your enquiry was about, and we do not send Google your name, email address, phone number or message.
We also load fonts from Google Fonts, which involves your browser requesting those files from Google's servers. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the site will continue to work.
Who else sees it
Enquiries are read by Dr. Jamie Rheeder. Your information is stored on our website hosting and is delivered to us by email, which means our hosting and email providers process it on our behalf. We do not share it with anyone else unless you ask us to, or unless the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not lead to mediation are deleted within 12 months. Where mediation goes ahead, correspondence is retained for as long as our professional and legal obligations require, and then deleted.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you;
- correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- delete information we no longer have a reason to keep;
- stop using your information for a particular purpose.
Email jamie@equitasmediations.com and we will respond within a reasonable period. If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Mediation confidentiality is separate
This policy covers the website. Mediation itself is confidential and conducted without prejudice - what is discussed in a session is governed by the terms you agree with us before mediation begins, not by this page.
Changes
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and the date above.
